ติโรกุฑฑกัณฑะคาถา : Tirokuddakandagāthā :
Adāsi
me akāsi me He gave to
me, he worked for me, he
Ñātimittā
sakhā ca me, was my kin, friend, intimate’,
give
Petānaṃ
dakkhinaṃ dajjā gifts,
then for departed ones,
Pubbe
katamanussaraṃ. Recalling
what they used to do.
Na
hi ruṇṇaṃ vā soko vā No
weeping, nor yet sorrowing, nor
Yā
vaññā paridevanā, any
kind of morning, aids.
Na
taṃ petānamatthāya departed ones whose kin remain
Evaṃ
tiṭṭhanti ñātayo. (unhelpful
to them acting) thus.
Ayañca
kho dakkhinā dinnā But when this
offering is given
Saṅghamhi
suppatiṭṭhitā, in the
Sangha well-established,
Digharattaṃ
hitāyassa for
them, then it can serve them
Ṭhānaso
upakappati. Long
in future and at once as well.
So
ñātidhammo ca ayaṃ nidassito, The Dhamma for relatives has thus
Been
shown.
Petāna
pūjā ca katā uḷārā, how high
honor to departed ones is
Done.
Balancabhikkhūnaṃanuppadinnaṃ, how the bhikkhus can be given
strength
As
well,
Tumhehi
puññaṃ pasutaṃ anappakanti. How great merit can be stored
away
By
you.
Ended.
