Nose is aflame.
Ghanaṃ ādittaṃ, Nose is aflame.
Gandhā ādittā, Odors are aflame.
Ghāna-viññānaṃ ādittaṃ, Consciousness with the nose is aflame.
Ghana-sambhasso āditto. Contact at the nose is aflame.
Yamp‘idam ghāna-samphassa-paccaya And whatever there is that arises
Uppajjati vedayitaṃ, in dependence on contact at the nose,
Sukhaṃ vā dukkhaṃ vā adukkham- experienced as pleasure, pain, or neither-
Asukhaṃ vā, pleasure-nor-pain,
Taṃpi ādittaṃ. That too is aflame.
Kena ādittaṃ. Aflame with what?
Ādittaṃ rāg‘agginā dos‘agginā Aflame with the fire of passion, the fire
Moh‘agginā, of aversion, the fire of delusion. Aflame,
Ādittaṃ jātiya jarā-maranena, I tell you, with birth, ageing, & death,
Sokehi paridevehi dukkhehi domanassehi with sorrows, lamentations, pains,
Upāyāsehi ādittaṃti vadāmi. Distress, & despairs.
