มรรคสัจจนิเทศ    :    Maggasacce Niddeso.

Katamañca , bhikkhave,                                  Amd, Monks, what is the Noble Truth of
Dukkhanirodhagāminī paṭipadā                                     the Path leading to
ariyasaccaṃ?                                                                     the Cessation of Suffering?

Ayameva ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo,                               It is the very Noble Eightfold Path,
Seyyathīdaṃ-                                                                     namely,
sammadiṭṭhi,                                                                       Right Understanding,
sammasaṅkappo,                                                              Right Thought,
sammavācā,                                                                       Right  Speech,
sammāmammanto,                                                           Right Action,
samma ājīvo,                                                                      Right Livelihood,
sammāvāyamo,                                                                 Right Effort,
sammasati,                                                                         Right Mindfulness,
sammāsamādhi.                                                                Right Concentration.

1 Katamā ca, bhikkhave,                                                 And, Monks, what is Right
Sammādiṭṭhi?                                                                     Understanding?
Yaṃ kho, bhikkhave,                                                        Monks,
dukkhe ñānaṃ,                                                                   understanding of suffering,
Dukkhasamudaye ñānaṃ,                                              inderstanding of the origin of suffering,
Dukkhanirodhe ñānaṃ,                                                   understanding of the cessation of suffering,
Dukkhanirodha-gāminīyā                                 understanding of the path leading to the
Patipadāya ñānaṃ.                                                           cessation of suffering,
Ayaṃ vuccari, bhikkhave,                                              This is called
sammādiṭṭhi.                                                                       Right Understanding.

2 Katamo ca, bhikkhave,                                 And, Monks,
 sammāsaṅkappo?                                                            what is the Right Thought?
Nekkhammasaṅkappo,                                                    Thought of renunciation,
Abyāpādasaṅkappo,                                                         thought of negating ill-will,
Avihiṃsāsaṅkappo,                                                          though of negating cruelty:
Ayaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave,                                              This is called
sammāsaṅkappo.                                                              Right Thought.

3 Katamā ca, bhikkhave,                                                 And,Monks,
sammāvācā?                                                                      what is Right Speech?
Musāvādā veramaṇī,                                                        Abstaining from lying,
Pisuṇāya vācāya veramanī,                                           from slandering,
Pharusāya vācāya veramanī,                                        from abusing,
Samphappalāpā veramanī,                                             from frivolous talk:
Ayaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave,                                              this is called
Sammāvācā.                                                                      Right Speech.

4 Katamo ca, bhikkhave,                                                 And, Monks,
sammākamanto?                                                               what is Right Action?
Pānātipātā veramanī,                                                       Abstaining from killing,
Adinnādāna veramanī,                                                     from stealing,
Kamesumucchacārā veramanī,                                    from sexual misconduct:
Ayaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave,                                              this is called
Sammākammanto.                                                           Right Action.

5 Katamo ca, bhikkhave,                                                 And, Monks,
Samma-ājīvo?                                                                    what is Right Livelihood?
Idha, bhikkhave, ariyasāvako                                        a noble disciple, having abandoned
Miccha ājīvaṃ pahāya                                                     wrong livelihood, makes a living by
Sammā  ājīvena jīvitaṃ kappeti.                                   Right livelihood.
Ayaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave,                                              this is called
Sammā ājīvo.                                                                      Right Livelihood.

6  Katamo ca, bhikkhave,                                                And, Monks,
sammāvāyāmo?                                                                What is Right Effort?
Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu                                                Here, Monks,

6.1 Anuppannanaṃ pāpakānaṃ                                    a monk rouses the will,
Akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ                                              puts forth effort,stirs up energy,
anuppādāya chandaṃ janeti,                                         exerts the mind and strives
vāyamati, vīriyaṃ ārabhati,                                            for the non-arising of evil,
cittaṃ paggaṇhāti, padahati;                                          unwholesome states that  have not arisen;

6.2 uppannānaṃ pāpakānaṃ                                         he rouses the will, pouts forth effort, stirs up
akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ pahānāya                           energy, exerts the mind and strives for the
chandaṃ janeti,                                                                  overcoming of evil,
vāyamati, vīriyaṃ ārabhati,                                            unwholesome states that
cittaṃ paggaṇhāti, padahati:                                          have  arisen;

6.3 anuppannanaṃ kusalānaṃ                                      he rouses the will, puts forth effort, stirs up
dhammānaṃ  uppādāya                                                  energy,
chandaṃ janeti, vāyamati,                                              exerts the mind and strives for the
vīriyaṃ ārabhati, cittaṃ                                                   arising of wholesome states
paggaṇhāti, padahati;                                                       that have not arisen;

6.4 uppannānaṃ kusalānaṃ                                          he rouses the will, puts forth effort, stirs up
dhammānaṃ thitiyā,                                                         energy, exerts the mind and strives for the
asammosāya, bhiyyobhāvāya,                                     stability, for the consolidation, for the
vepullāya, bhāvanāya, pāripūriya                 increase, for the maturity,
chandaṃ janeti, vāyamati,                                              for the development
vīriyaṃ ārabhati, cittaṃ paggaṇhāti                             and for the perfection through cultivation,
padahati.                                                                              of wholesome states that have arisen.
Ayaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave,                                              This is called
 sammāvāyāmo.                                                                Right Effort.

7 Katamā ca, bhikkhave, sammāsati?                        And, Monks, what is Right Mindfulness?
Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu Kāye                                     Here, Monks,
7.1 Kāyānupassī viharati                                 a monk dwells comtemplating the body
Ātāpī sampajāno satima, vineya loke                          in the body, ever ardent, clearly
Abhijjhādomanassaṃ,                                                     comprehending and mindful, removing
                                                                                                Covetousness and grief in the world.
7.2 Vedanasu vedanānupassī viharati                         he dwells contemplating the feelings, ever
Ātāpī sampajhāno satimā vineyya loke                       ardent, clearly comprehending and mindful,
Abhijjhādomanassaṃ.                                                     Removing covetousness and grief in the world.
7.3 Citte cittānupassī viharati,                                       he  dwells contemplating the mind and the
Ātāpī sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke                        mind,ever ardent, clearly comprehending 
Abhijjhādomanassaṃ.                                                     and Mindful, removing covetousness and grief in theWorld.
7.4 Dhammesu Dhamma-nupassī                                he dwells contemplating the mental-object in
Viharati ātāpī sampajāno satima                                   the mental-objects, ever ardent, clearly
Vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṃ.                            Comprehending and mindful, removing
                                                                                                Covetousness and grief in the world.
Ayaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave, sammāsati.                       This, Monks, is called Right Mindfulness.

8 Katamo ca, bhikkhave,                                 And, Mons,
sammāsamādhi?                                                               What is Right Concentration?
1 Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu vivicceva                          Here, Monks, a monk, having entirely
Kāmehi vivicca akusalehi dhammehi                          withdrawn from sensual pleasure and having
Savitakkaṃ savicāraṃ vivekajam                               withdrawn from unwholesome states, attains
Pītisukkhaṃ pathamaṃ jhānaṃ                                    and dwells in the  first stage of ecstatic
Upasampajja viharati.                                                       Absorption( khāna), which is accompanied
                                                                                                By initial application, sustained application,
                                                                                                Rapture and happiness, born of seclusion.

2 Vitakkavicārānaṃ vūpasamā                                     With the subsiding of both initial and
Ajjhattaṃ sampasādanaṃ                                              sustained application havng gain internal
Cetaso ekodibhāvaṃ avitakkaṃ                                   confidence and singleness of mind, he
Avicāraṃ samādhijampīti                                                attains and dwells in the second state of
Sukkhaṃ dutiyaṃ jhānaṃ                                              ecstatic absorption which is without initial
Upasampajja viharati.                                                       and sustained application and Born of ecstatic concentration with rapture and
happiness.

3 Pītiyā ca virāgā upekkhako                                         With the overcoming of rapture, he then
Ca viharati,                                                                          dwells in equanimity, mindful and clearly
Sato ca sampajāno,                                                          comprehending, he experiences in his person
Sukhañca kāyena paṭisaṃvedeti,                                (body and mind) that bliss of which the Noble
Yan taṃ ariyā acikkhanti                                 Ones say, ‘ Happy, indeed, is he wo dwells
Upekkhako satimā sukkhavihārī’ ti                               equanimous and mindful,’ and thus attains
Tatiyaṃ jhanaṃ upasampajja viharati.                        and Dwells in the third stage of ecstatic absorption.

4 Sukkhassa ca pahānā dukkhassa ca                       With the abandoning of pleasure and pain,
Pahānā pubbeva somanassa-                                       and through the disappearance already
Domanassānaṃ atthaṅgamā                                         of  both joy and grief, he attains and dwells in
Adukkhamasuk-haṃ upekkhā                                       the fourth state of ecstatic absorption, a state
Satipārisuddhiṃ catutthaṃ jhānaṃ                              which, rising above both pain nor pleasure,
Upassampajja viharati.                                                    Has utter purity of mindfulness and equanimity.

Ayam vuccati, bhikkhave,                                              This is called
sammāsamādhi.                                                                Right Concentration.

Idaṃ vuccati,bhikkhave,                                                 This, Monks, is the Noble Truth
dukkhanirodhagāminī paṭipadā                                      of the Path leading
ariyasaccaṃ.                                                                      to the cessation of Suffering.
Iti ajjhattaṃ vā dhammesu                                              Thus, he dwells contemplating the mental-
Dhammānupassī viharati,                                               object in the mental-objects internally,
Bahiddhā vā dhammesu                                  or he dwells contemplating the mental-object
Dhammānupassī viharati,                                               in the mental-objects externally,
Ajjhattabahiddhā vā dhammesu                                    or he dwells contemplating the mental-object
Dhammānupassī viharati.                                               in Mental-objects both internally and externally.

Samudayadhammānupassī vā                                      He dwells contemplating the origination
Dhammesu viharati,                                                          factors in the mental-objects;
Vayadhammānupassī vā                                 or he dwells contemplating the dissolution
Dhammesu viharati,                                                          factors in the mental-objects.
Samudayavayadhammānupassī vā                             or he dwells contemplating both the
Dhammesu viharati.                                                          origination And dissolution factors in the mental-objects.

Atthi dhammā’ ti vā panassa                                          Or his mindfulness is established as ‘there is
Satipaccupaṭṭhitā hoti,                                                     mental-object only,’
Yāvadeva ñāṇamattāya                                                   to the extent necessary for knowledge and
Paṭissatimattāya.                                                              Mindfulness.
Anissito  ca viharati,                                                         He dwells completely independent( not
                                                                                                Depending on craving and wrong view),
Na ca kiñci loke upādiyati.                                              Clininging to nothing in the world.

Evampi  kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhu                                 Monks, thus indeed, a monk
Dhammesu dhammānupassī                                         dwells contemplating the mental-object in
Viharati,                                                                                the mental-objects
Catūsu ariya saccesu.                                                     of the Four Noble Truths.
