6 ภัทเทกะรัตตะคาถา  : Bhaddhekarattagatha  :    Verses on a single night.

Handa mayaṃ Bhaddhekarattagāthāyo                           Let us now chant verses on a single night.
Bhanāmase.
(All)
Atitaṃ nānvātameyya                                                                One ought not to long for what has
Nappatikaṅkhe anāgataṃ,                                      passed away.
                                                                                                Nor be anxious over things that are             
                                                                                                Yet to come.
Yadatitampahīnantaṃ appattanca                      The past has left, the future has not 
Anāgataṃ,                                                                        arrived.
Paccuppannañca yo dhammaṃ                                           Whoever sees the present dhammas
Tattha tattha vipassati.                                                            Direct and clear just as they are
Asaṃhiraṃ asṅkuppaṃ                                                            Is unshakable, immovable, secure.
Taṃ viddhā manubrūhaye                                       They should accumulate such moments.
Ajjeva kiccamatappaṃ                                                              Effort is the duty of today. Even
Ko jaññā maranaṃ suve.                                         Tomorrow who can know death may
                                                                                                Come.
Na hi no saṃgarantena                                                          For it is beyond our power to delay
Mahāsenena maccunā.                                                             Death and it great armies.
Evam vihārimātāpiṃ                                                   The Sages of Peace Speak of that one
Ahorattamatanditaṃ                                                   who strives never lazy throughout the
Taṃ ve bhaddekarattoti                                                            entire day and night: “Praise the one who
Santo ācikkhate munīti.                                                           Truly lives for even a single night.”
