1 ปัพพะโตปะมะคาถา  : Pabbatopamagāthā : The mountain:

Yathāpi selā vipulā                                                      Like gigantic boulders,
Nabhaṃ āhacca pabbatā,                                        mountains reaching to the sky,
Samantā anupariyeyyuṃ                                         Moving in from all sides,
Nippothentā catuddisā,                                                             crushing the four directions,

Evaṃ jarā ca maccu ca                                                            In the same way, ageing & death
Adhivattanti pānino                                                     Roll over living beings:
Khattiye braāhmane vesse,                                    Noble warriors, priests, merchants,
Sudde candāla-pukkuse.                                         Workers, outcastes, & scavengers.

Na kiñci parivajjeti                                                       They spare nothing,
Sabbaṃ-evābhimaddati                                                            They trample everything,
Na tatthatthīnaṃ bhūmi                                                            Here elephants can hold no ground
Na rathānaṃ na pattiyā                                                             Nor can chariots or infantry.
Na cāpi manta-yuddhena                                         Nor can a battle of spells
Sakkā jetuṃ dhanena vā.                                        Or wealth win out.

Tasmā hi paṇdito poso                                                              So a wise person,
Sampassaṃ attham-attano                                    Seeing his own good,
Buddhe Dhamme ca Saṅghe ca                                         Secures firm conviction
Dhīro saddhaṃ nivesaye.                                        In the Buddha, Dhamma, &Sangha.

Yo dhammacārī kāyena                                                            He who practices the Dhamma
Vācāya uda  cetasā                                                    In thought, word, & deed,
Idh’eva naṃ pasaṃsanti                                          receives praise here on earth
Pecca sagge pamodati.                                                            And after death rejoices in heaven.

Ended.
